Garrison

I've been coming to Garrison all of my life. I remember childhood summers spent at grandma and grandpa's house. I looked forward to them more than almost anything! We spent hours with cousins riding horses, rabbit hunting (which made me squeamish), dutch oven dinners, exploring, dress ups, mother-may-I, long walks on dusty roads, bonfires at the lake, hanging out at the Border Inn, Labor Day dancing...I could go on an on! Even now grandma's house is like a childhood memory suspended in time. Very little has changed in her home since I was little. If you visit, you will find her vintage toaster (my favorite) still sitting on the kitchen counter. Glass grapes adorn her coffee table. I love her guest room with the old wall paper, antique dressers and vanity, even down to the glass door knobs.

Just like anything in life, not everything was perfect there, but what's done is done and I am left with a warmth in my heart when I think of my childhood summer's in Garrison.

Now, all these years later Garrison has become my home. Tyler and I decided early in our marriage to move out here and work for the family business. It has been a wonderful and rewarding decision for us! Now we are making more Garrison memories!

Isn't it beautiful! (Photo taken from our deck)

  2. Michelle,

I can't tell you how excited I was to find your blog! Garrison is quite the place, I too look to it for so much happiness, growing up there was priceless and I realize that more and more as I look for ways to provide fun experiences for my own children. It is very difficult to let them experience much of the same things I did growing up, some due to me being paranoid and the world is not as save any more! Although Matt jokes often that he can't wait till Garrison is a 'ghost town' and he can tell our children, grandchildren that I am from a Ghost Town, it will always be a wonderful place to me!! We all looked forward to your visits!!

  3. Michelle!

Ah yes, Garrison — land of quietness. I remember when I lived out there for about 8 weeks over a summer, working at the rock quarry. When I first arrived I thought it was going to be the most boring 8 weeks of my life; little did I know. I don't think I have ever felt more peaceful, before or since, than I did during those 8 weeks on the ranch.

I'm glad you love it out there. That land deserves to be loved.
